\u201cMandela Global Human Rights: Peace, Reconciliation and Responsibility: A Teacher Guide and Lessons for Educators,\u201d <\/span>w<\/span>as<\/span> developed in response to <\/span>the demand<\/span> for human rights educational materials <\/span>tailored for <\/span>primary<\/span> and <\/span>junior, to intermediate and senior school divisions<\/span>, that focus on People of African Descent<\/span>. The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) in collaboration with Brock University, commissioned CMHR Inaugural Visiting Scholar, Dr. Dolana Mogadime, Professor, Brock University to lead the curriculum project and <\/span>a<\/span>dvisory. <\/span> <\/span>As <\/span>C<\/span>hair of the Teaching Nelson Mandela (TNM) Advisory,<\/span> Professor<\/span> Mogadime extends gratitude to the members of the TNM Advisory<\/span>, m<\/span>any of whom<\/span>,<\/span> <\/span>held<\/span> <\/span>a <\/span>common <\/span>appreciation for<\/span> Mandela\u2019s memory as the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and<\/span> <\/span>his contribution <\/span>toward <\/span>leading <\/span>a <\/span>nation <\/span>to<\/span>ward<\/span> democracy.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project received funding from Ontario Online Learning Consortium, also known as <\/span>eCampusOntario<\/span> (\u201cOOLC\u201d), in support of the Province of Ontario\u2019s Virtual Learning Strategy.<\/span> <\/span>Project Deliverables are funded by the Province of Ontario and OOLC<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span>Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum documents for Grades K-12, were utilized and provide entry points for educators throughout Ontario, Canada and internationally for conceptualizing how lessons can be integrated into mandated curriculum while being responsive to Black history, and the contributions of Black people to societ<\/span>ies<\/span> within global contexts. <\/span>Additionally, t<\/span>he materials provide a gateway to understanding the connections between <\/span>human rights violations through <\/span>\u2018forced removals\u2019 of<\/span> Indigenous Peoples <\/span>from their land <\/span>on Turtle Island \u2018Canada\u2019 and <\/span>displacement through \u2018force removals\u2019 of <\/span>people living in <\/span>District 6, an <\/span>interracial community <\/span>in South Africa, <\/span>where Black, white, <\/span>Coloured<\/span> and Indian <\/span>people <\/span>coexisted<\/span>, <\/span>in <\/span>cosmopolitan communities in Cape Town<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMandela Global Human Rights: Peace, Reconciliation and Responsibility: A Teacher Guide and Lessons for Educators,\u201d<\/span> is dedicated to the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent, 2015-2024 and the <\/span>January 24, <\/span>UNESCO World Day for African and <\/span>Afrodescendant<\/span> Culture. <\/span>Parts of this publication were made possible through support from the Canadian Museum for Human Rights<\/span> and <\/span>through<\/span> partial<\/span> funding from the <\/span>Faculty of Education, Brock University. <\/span><\/p>\n \n
